The reservoir
The Víboras Reservoir was built in 1997, and it is located in the course of the River Víboras, in the foothill of the Sierra de la Grana and Sierra de la Caracolera. It is in the village of Las Casillas that belongs to a town called Martos.
In the surrounding area you can find olive groves, reforestation pinewoods as well as Mediterranean vegetation in some specific areas. In addition, there is a wide variety of fish such as carp, trout, black bass or barbel.
Next to the reservoir, one can find the Periurban Park of the Víboras Reservoir. Here there is street furniture and gardens, wonderful views to the countryside, as well as a picnic area where visitors can spend a lovely day in the great outdoors.
This is one of the most popular reservoirs for recreational fishing clubs of the region. On some weekends there are up to four competitions on its shores, as there are seven designated areas for fresh water competitions.
Another interesting place near the reservoir is the La Encomienda de Víboras Castle, which was built in the 9th century and is located next to the river and very close to the hydraulic dam.
It is a wonderful place to enjoy nature, water and the olive tree landscape surrounding the reservoir. A place to rest, relax with the murmur of the water and the wet breeze of the atmosphere.
