The fountain
La Negra Fountain was built in 1981. It is located in the centre of Fuensanta de Martos, in the municipal park.
In La Negra Fountain, we find a site where water and vegetation join together to create a place of great tranquility and one of a great symbolic value for the locals.
The fountain’s shape is cubic, and it has two twin, symmetric areas with three round arches. These arches emphasise the streams of water that are separated by a larger arched area.
Inside the fountain, in a niche covered by a glass, we can find a little statue of the Virgin for people to worship. It is classical iconography that gives its name to the fountain.
Behind the fountain, every year during the Easter period, hundreds of visitors come to a nearby hill to enjoy a performance about the Passion of Jesus Christ.
