The park
Villanueva de la Reina is located on the northwest corner of the Jaén province, east of Andújar. It is surrounded on the north by the River Guadalquivir and a riverside park.
Guadalquivir Park is a green area that runs for 2kms along the Guadalquivir riverside.
The Park has recreation areas, a fairground and a footbridge to cross the river towards Las Viñas area.
River Guadalquivir passes through Villanueva de la Reina and forms many tributaries suporting exuberant vegetation such as willows, poplars, black poplars, blackberries and eucalyptus.
The fauna includes mallards, storks, Mediterranean pond turtles (Mauremys leprosa), grey herons, reservoir crayfish, viperine snakes, kingfishers, bee-eaters and nightingales.
