The recreation area
Benatae is the smallest village in Sierra de Segura. It is totally included in Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park that makes it a perfect place for calm and nature lovers.
El Cerro de San Miguel (San Miguel Hill) is located 1.5 kilometers from Benatae town centre towards Puente Honda.
El Cerro de San Miguelis a recreation area with excellent views of the Natural Park. In one of the hillsides, there is a fountain that is the origin of the name of this place. There are many fountains all over the area.
This recreation area has tables, benches, barbeques, a fountain and a great terrace.
Visitors can contemplate native fauna and vegetation and enjoy excellent landscapes.
The hill dominates the Pinus Nigra wood. Underneath it, a thick undergrowth grows where visitors can find junipers, mastics, rockroses and kermes oaks. There are many foxes, wild boars, squirrels and Iberian ibex might be seen on the top. Raptors, peregrine falcons, short-toed snake eagles and griffon vultures might be seen.
Several walks can be undertaken in El Cerro de San Miguel. In the recreation area visitors can find the starting path information panel (PR-A 179) towards Peñalta peak (1412m.)
